In order, to block these distractions we need to just take help of apps that can help us in being more productive.Īctually, there are too many applications that allow users to focus on their work in different ways. This is not the end of the distraction, there are many other distractions that doesn’t let us being productive in our work. Like if we’re working online and we got a YouTube notification and we suddenly get distracted by it. “The song deserves its place in rock history, and of course we continue to embrace it,” he concludes. We all know that, in this booming digital world internet is a massive distraction. And van Leer concedes that Hocus Pocus still overshadows their every move. ![]() “She sent the song up brilliantly.”įocus continue to tour and record. “ Vanessa Mae’s is the best of all,” he says. He does, however, praise the most unusual rendition of all. “Those other versions made me proud, but I don’t like any of them,” admits van Leer. “Even after all these years it’s never, never boring.”Īs well as resurfacing during the end credits of TV comedy Saxondale, Hocus Pocus has been covered by several rock bands including Iron Maiden, Helloween and Marillion. "The crowd goes crazy whenever we play it, and we go crazy as well,” van Leer enthuses. One thing that Focus will never be brave enough to do is drop Hocus Pocus from their live shows – not that they even wish to. “Another thing that separated us from so many bands was that we play loudly and quietly,” he adds. “The Moving Waves album did have Eruption, a song that took up a whole side of vinyl and which we still play live, but even at its longest Hocus Pocus was more like a single,” explains van Leer. These days it rarely lasts for longer than 10 minutes. Hocus Pocus reached No.20 in the UK (on its second release, a year after its original 1972 release), and No.9 in the US more than a further year later.Īs demonstrated by Focus’s 1973 album Live At The Rainbow, Hocus Pocus was slightly elongated when performed live, but the band resisted the temptation to make it the centrepiece of their show. “We even considered calling it Crocus for a short while,” he confides with a smile.įocus really found their feet with their second album Moving Waves (on which Hocus Pocus was the opening track), which later prompted eventual long-term producer Mike Vernon to observe: “You wonder if it’s the same band ”.īut it was the decision to make it a single by slashing three minutes from its original six-and-a-half that eventually established Focus as stars on both sides of the Atlantic. With no lyrics per se, it was van Leer who proposed giving it a title that rhymed with the band’s name. Apart from the addition of a manic flute solo, a flourish of accordion and some scat vocal ad-libs, the track was put down in just a couple of takes, and in almost exactly the same form as it had emerged at the castle. The band were impressed that Polydor Records had paired them with Mike Vernon, who had produced Fleetwood Mac and John Mayall. Hocus Pocus was recorded partly in London in April/May 1971. ![]() “Without boasting, it was something that I just knew.” “Although I wasn’t aware that it might become a rock’n’roll classic, I had a feeling in my spine that it would make history,” he says. Like many composers of hits, van Leer knew instantly that he and Akkerman had created something of lasting value. ![]() The City does not assume any responsibility for these web sites content or management, nor does the offering of this link indicate any product endorsement. ![]() If LNG were used instead of BTZ heavy fuel oil, it could see a reduction in the emissions of various pollutants: minus 100 per cent particulate matter, 90 per cent nitrogen oxides and 25 per cent carbon dioxide. Even ship transport is not without fault when it comes to pollution: they are normally powered by BTZ heavy fuel oil. The latter could reach a 95 per cent reduction if LNG were produced from the liquefaction of biomethane. If heavy vehicles such as trucks, buses and lorries were powered by LNG instead of diesel, they could reduce the emissions of various pollutants, minus 96 per cent of particulate matter, 32 per cent nitrogen oxides and 15 per cent carbon dioxide. If 50 per cent of the cars were converted to LPG, an emission reduction of 115 tons per year of nitrogen oxides and 106,800 tons of carbon dioxide per year would be obtained. In Lazio 73 per cent of the car fleet is fuelled by petrol (between Euro 0-4 standards), explained the promoters of the conference. According to a survey conducted in 2019 on the domestic consumption of wood biomass in Lazio, the families who use wood biomass for heating exclusively are still 64 per cent, with the use of fireplaces and pellet stoves. A possible solution to the phenomenon could come from the promotion of less polluting energies such as LPG or LNG, which produce much lower carbon dioxide emissions than fossil fuel sources. The main sources of pollution are from vehicular traffic and domestic heating. They were also asked to limit the start-up times for their heating systems and lower the overall room temperature by a few degrees. The local authorities made the request to the people of Rome, not to use their cars and motorbikes, but to use public transport instead. Without wind or rain, the pollution hangs in the air. Towards the end of December 2020, Rome was experiencing a period of stagnant air. Is air pollution in Rome getting better or worse? “EURO 2” petrol-powered vehicles were also to be included. The banned vehicles included pre- “EURO 1" and "EURO 1" mopeds and motorcycles, two, three and four-wheelers, equipped with 2 or 4-stroke engines. In order to contain atmospheric pollution, the local authorities have ordered the limitation to circulation for the most polluting vehicles for the 3 rd February 2020. The air quality monitoring stations in Rome detected a critical situation due to the exceeding of the permitted levels of PM10 by law, in many areas of the city. For the remaining 6 months, the quality was “Moderate” with readings between 12.1 and 35.4 µg/m³. In April, July, August and September the level was “Good” with readings between 10 and 12 µg/m³. For the months of May and November, Rome achieved the WHO target figure of 10 µg/m³ or less. The average annual figure was 12.9 µg/m³ which classed the air quality as “Moderate”. In windy or rainy conditions the pollution concentrations remain low, the pollutant can be swept away, or removed from the rain by deposition. Primarily, it is the atmospheric conditions that determine what happens once the pollutant is released into the air. Each comes from different sources, has its own chemical behaviour and causes different health effects, which makes the task of understanding and controlling air pollution as a whole very complex. The main air pollutants are carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen dioxide (NO 2), ground-level ozone (O 3), particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), sulphur dioxide (SO 2), hydrocarbons and lead (Pb). Man-made emissions are largely the result of burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, gasoline or diesel. Natural particle emissions come from the sea, soil and plants. The main sources of pollution are vehicular traffic and domestic heating (especially when diesel or biomass are used). People living in an urban area are exposed to a mixture of environmental pollutants. What is the main source of air pollution in Rome? With levels such as these, the advice is to close doors and windows to prevent the ingress of dirty air and those of a sensitive disposition should avoid outdoor exercise until the air quality improves. ![]() These figures are based on the suggested levels by the World Health Organisation (WHO). The recorded level of the PM2.5 pollutant was 28.1 µg/m³. In January 2021, Rome was experiencing a period of “Moderate” quality air with a US AQI figure of 85. Vatican City which is officially the smallest country in the world is an independent country within the city boundaries of Rome and is the only example of a country within a city. Rome is the capital city and a special comune of Italy (named Comune di Roma Capitale), as well as the capital of the Lazio region. ![]() I also got the deodorant wipes and they work better and smell less terrible than the deodorant, but the actual wipe material is super thin and pills and rips very easily. I just didn’t know it would smell so foul while completely underperforming. I understand that it’s not an antiperspirant, and I’m fine with that. It’s completely ineffective for underarm odor, actually, it’s worse, because the disgusting scent mingled with the regular BO smell turns into something way worse than if I’d used nothing. Maybe it’s one of the active ingredients that gives it that salty smell? I don’t know, because nothing about this stuff seems active at all. I thought maybe it was just that scent so I tried the Lily scent. ![]() It smells like that lime flavored salt candy, but way saltier. Since it’s summer, I thought it would be a nice, light citrus scent. I got the 3 tube bundle and decided to try the Twisted Lime first. It’s expensive, and if it was simply ineffective, I wouldn’t care that much. I’m here because I can’t figure out how to leave a review on the Lume website. Just wanted to be the devils advocate on this one. I don’t need to layer deodorant, but I like to, depending on what I’m wearing. However, I have started wearing it with a normal deodorant, to help with the sweating. I haven’t tried it wearing only super fresh clothes, pajamas, and sheets for 3 days, but it could probably work. I never got to 72 hours, but definitely over 24 with one application. For the most part, if I don’t rewear clothes I exercised in, it works. I’ve used the unscented one for a year, and when I use it after bathing, or wiping with a baby wipe quickly after exercise if I don’t have time to shower, and apply, it works. So, it doesn’t deodorize, it just kills some bacteria and may temporarily keep more from growing. That’s why you have to bathe it washes away the bacteria and gives you a fresh start. However, bacteria will find a way and revive in that area, often from rewearing clothes. It won’t stop you from sweating, but it will kill the bacteria on the skin that cause the odor. However, the most “BO” I get is a while after sweating, so that may be a factor. To give another perspective, I like lume. I want my oldskool reassurance back, even if I have to go back to scrubbing deodorant wax out of the pits of my clothing. The oniony man-ish smell is becoming too gnarly, and it’s starting to become trapped in my new clothing permanently… Not worth it. I’ve been hesitant to return to my old stuff, because I liked that this is wax/aluminum-free and whatnot, and figured I’d keep trying and hoping. ![]() Best at this point, would be maybe 18, and you can’t be certain. The product claims up to 72 hours of odor protection, but it’s nowhere near that (I’ve tested it). I’m even starting to perspire more again, even when it’s not that hot. In a time when people get 2-day prime shipping, this is pretty bad. I will say, that it’s decent on places that aren’t your pits, and that’s what I’ll keep using it for, until it’s gone. ![]() I’m going to switch back to my drugstore clinical, because I can’t deal with the unpredictability of this product. I’ve been using it for over 3 months, and while it did work for awhile, it plateaued in its effectiveness. Please report any comments that fit this description so we can act accordingly. Yo-Yo" is a song written by Joe South and first released as a single by Billy Joe Royal in 1966, peaking at #117 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and #28 in Canada. Royal launched a comeback with the 1998 album Stay Close to Home on the Intersound label, following up with the independent release Now and Then, Then and Now in 2001. ![]() He continued to have minor hits into 1992 and toured into the 2000s. By 1990, Royal's style of pop-inflected country had been replaced by neo-traditional honky tonk at the top of the charts, and his popularity began to decline. Over the next two years he had a string of Top 40 hits, breaking into the Top Ten in late 1987 once again with "I'll Pin a Note on Your Pillow." In 1989, Royal released the album Tell It Like Is the title cut, a remake of the venerable soul standard, became his biggest hit, peaking at number two, while the album itself stayed in the Top 15 for over a year. The single became a hit and reached the country Top Ten in early 1986. In 1984, he broke through when he recorded the Gary Burr composition "Burned Like a Rocket" it was picked up by the Atlantic label, which signed Royal to a contract. The wrong-side-of-the-tracks theme of "Down in the Boondocks" was a familiar one to country audiences, and during the early '80s Royal worked on establishing himself as a country artist. In 1978, he recorded a cover of "Under the Boardwalk" and scored a minor hit. He also did a bit of acting on television, in feature films, and in commercials. Following its success, Royal had a string of lesser hits, including the Top 40 pop singles "I Knew You When," "I've Got to Be Somebody," and "Cherry Hill Park." By the end of the decade, Royal's star waned, and he became a regular performer in Las Vegas and around Lake Tahoe. The song became Royal's breakthrough single, reaching number nine on the pop charts and briefly making the vocalist into a teen idol. The demo ended up at Columbia, and the label signed Royal to a six-year deal. Royal flew from Cincinnati (where he was working at the time) to Atlanta and cut "Down in the Boondocks," whose churchy echo resulted from the use during recording of a large septic tank that had been dragged into the studio. Royal and South roomed together for a time, and two or three years later South contacted him with a song he wanted Royal to sing as a demo, in the hope that Gene Pitney would record it. In 1962, he recorded an independent single that went unnoticed. Performing at a nightclub that also booked Sam Cooke and other African-American stars, Royal observed their vocal moves and began to practice them on his own time. He also spent time in Savannah, where he was influenced by African-American vocal styles and began to develop his distinctive vocal sound. Royal had his own rock & roll band in high school and was regularly singing around Atlanta by the age of 16. ![]() He learned to play steel guitar and joined the Georgia Jubilee in Atlanta at 14, performing with Joe South, Jerry Reed, and Ray Stevens, among several other artists. Royal was born into a family of musical entertainers in Valdosta, Georgia, and made his debut on his uncle's radio show at the age of 11. Although he never had another hit as successful as "Down in the Boondocks," he racked up about 15 singles that hit the country charts over the course of the 1980s. Best known for his country-flavored rock hit "Down in the Boondocks," Billy Joe Royal had a long career that saw him become one of the first pop performers to successfully revive his commercial fortunes by turning to straight country music. ![]() The bottom drain plate prevents water stains from ruining your countertops, contributing to an even more modern-looking and classic kitchen.
